How The Child Development Review Works
1. Complete your Child Development Review Conversation
Spend approximately two hours with Dion discussing and working through your child's development, strengths, support needs and any concerns you have.
This conversation will typically be completed over a Microsoft Teams call but may have options for face-to-face. Please see the FAQ for further details.
2. Dion reviews your information
Dion will review what you've discussed alongside any documents you've provided and piece the information together into a clear written report.
3. Know your next step
You'll receive your report within two weeks, with recommendations and a clearer understanding of what you can do next.
Where possible, Dion will identify appropriate referrals, provide resources, help you find and navigate relevant paperwork and help you feel confident about your next steps.

What You Need To Know

The CDR is is designed to help families with young children understand and navigate their child's development with confidence.
This service is provided through the following processes:
Structured discussion exploring your child’s development (approximately 2 hours).
Review of any reports or evidence provided.
Provision of a written report outlining the developmental and functional picture identified through the review, along with recommendations and potential next steps (within two weeks of your appointment date, where possible).

Once the review has been completed, you will received a report for your child. The report will provide clarity around what’s happening for your child and assist you in:
Identifying what might be age-appropriate.
What to monitor.
What areas are worth investigating for support.
Tips and strategies to get you started.
It will also include what your options are for support, along with recommendations for next steps.
The information provided can be used to help:
Clinical supports such as your GP, paediatrician or allied health team.
Support a referral to a paediatrician.
Help access a Chronic Condition Management Plan through your GP.
Support conversations at day-care or school.
Support applications to the NDIS.

Where the NDIS is the recommended pathway, this can include helping you:
Understand what paperwork you actually need.
Identify anything that is missing.
Get your supporting documents organised correctly.
Understand the next steps.
Avoid wasting weeks trying to figure it out alone.
The goal is simple.
Get the paperwork sorted so you can move forward.
Please note: While information contained within the CDR may be useful when exploring or applying for NDIS supports, DMTCSS does not guarantee that NDIS access will be recommended or, where it is recommended, that an application will be successful. The CDR and associated outcomes are not a replacement for accessing NDIS guidance or support through your Partner in the Community or Local Area Coordinator.

The CDR is primarily to help families with undiagnosed children aged 0-8 to identify potential developmental concerns and allow the implementation of early intervention or pursue a diagnosis pathway.
It can be utilised more broadly for children up to the age of 18 and who already have a diagnosis. For further details, please see the “What if I Already Have Access to the NDIS or Other Supports?” section below.

The CDR is not designed to be a way of accessing the NDIS. It is here to help you review and understand your child’s development, as well as identify how you can support them moving forward.
If you already have access to support, the CDR can help add another layer of perspective.
If you are already accessing NDIS supports, the CDR can be useful to help present your child’s circumstances clearly to people who do not know them.
It can also identify potential additional supports or changes to supports currently being accessed through the NDIS and provide guidance on what additional evidence may strengthen the request.

The CDR conversation requires detailed discussion about areas where your child may be experiencing difficulty, including their strengths, support needs and developmental concerns. While children may not understand everything being discussed, they can often understand enough for these conversations to negatively affect how they feel about themselves.
Where additional observations or conversations with them may be helpful, these can be completed in person or virtually at a later date and will be discussed with you as part of the CDR conversation.

The CDR conversation will be guided by Dion. There is no expectation that you come in with prepared statements, an understanding of your child’s development or what help you may need.

Yes, if they are from the last 6 months and you would like them considered as part of the review.
Older diagnostic reports may be relevant and can be provided where applicable.
If you have reports from school, allied health professionals, day-care or anyone else that has provided information around your child’s development or existing challenges, please provide prior to your meeting date.
This information will be utilised to supplement what is collected from you during the conversation and is not used to primarily inform my findings during the review.
Evidence is utilised this way because you are your child's biggest expert and can provide a detailed picture of who they are in their everyday life. It gives me valuable insight into who your child is when they are comfortable and safe, rather than allowing the review to be shaped primarily by how they may have presented in a clinician's office, at day-care or at school.
Still unsure whether something might be beneficial to provide? Send it through, just in case. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

If you need to reschedule for any reason, please let me know as soon as possible.
I understand this can’t always be done with a lot of notice and that is fine. As long as you notify me at least 60 minutes prior to your appointment time.
If you do not attend your appointment and have not contacted me beforehand, I will provide an opportunity to reschedule your appointment within 30 days of the original appointment date.
If multiple appointments are missed without notice and reasonable attempts have been made to accommodate rescheduling, your booking may be considered forfeited.
Where a booking is forfeited due to repeated non-attendance, payments already received will not be refundable.
